The Lunch Bunch
Join the Lunch Bunch and provide a meal at CCA! Our students greatly appreciate lunches from our volunteers! Providing lunch is also an effective way for groups (church/corporate/families/friends) to serve together in a meaningful way!
We've shared some meal examples below, but please feel free to bring whatever you'd like! You may also bring a frozen meal ahead of time, and the CCA staff will thaw and warm it on the day when lunch is needed. You can set up and serve lunch or you can drop it off. If you can stay, it’s a great way to get to know the students!
- Lunch for 35 students and staff.
- We provide drinks, paper plates, napkins, and utensils.
- Lunch begins at 12:00 p.m., so we ask volunteers to arrive by 11:45 a.m.
Meals to Purchase
- Jason’s Deli
- Dickey’s BBQ
- Jimmy Johns
- Raising Canes
- Tacos Y Mas
- McAlister’s Deli
Meals to Make
- Chili dogs/hot dogs
- Chicken spaghetti
- Loaded baked potatoes
As a CCA Prayer Warrior, we ask that you commit to pray daily for one (or more) student throughout the school year.
Our students come to school with many stressful challenges in their lives. We share the hope and abundant life of Christ with our students and provide opportunities for them to learn and grow in their faith.
Some students who you pray for may not stay in school until the end of the year and others will graduate. We are asking you to continue to pray, regardless of the outward "success" of the students.
Here’s how it works:
- You select a student.
- We send you an introductory email with pictures and information about the student.
- We send you monthly updates, notes of encouragement, and suggestions for scriptures to pray on behalf of CCA and our students.
At CCA, our tutors are some of our biggest heroes! Many of our students are completing online courses in a computer lab-type setting. They often need help reading through assignments, completing study guides (provided), and applying what they know to online quizzes.
Tutors help them stay on task, read through the materials, and take the quizzes. Frequently, the student’s primary need is attention and encouragement.
In addition to helping with online courses, tutors work with students to develop their skills in reading and math. Reading tutors work one-on-one with students on reading skills such as fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Similarly, math tutors work one-on-one with students to help them master foundational math skills.
Tutoring takes place during the school day, either in the morning (9-11 a.m.) or in the afternoon (1-3 p.m.). Feel free to drop in and give tutoring a test drive! All tutors are required to complete a volunteer application and background check by their fourth visit. We ask that tutors commit to a minimum of 2 sessions per month.
Help us care for our students by becoming a volunteer “Uber” driver for CCA!
With our case management program, students can visit doctors, get essential documents, and make other important appointments. At times, we need assistance with the transportation aspect of these visits. Volunteer drivers assist by taking students to appointments, waiting with them, and dropping them back off at CCA.
Appointment scheduling differs depending on the type of appointment. With this in mind, volunteer drivers typically serve on an as needed basis. You will be notified of upcoming appointments and pertinent details, such as driving directions, time and length of the appointment, and which students will be attending.
- A valid state driver’s license
- Proof of insurance
- A clean driving record
- A flexible schedule
Lend a helping hand with various projects on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
From donor gifts to deep cleaning the school, our Weekend Warriors get the job done! Join us once, or come each month. Feel free to bring a friend along with you.
Previous projects include:
- Making donor gifts
- Reorganizing the pantry
- Preparing for graduation
Fun Ways to Get Involved
We like to find fun ways to let our students know that they are loved – by God, by us, and by others. Sending a care package is a great way to let them know you care!
Pro tip: Grab your family and friends for the packing party! The more, the merrier!
Here's how it works:
1.) Grab a box! Please be sure to use a sturdy box and packaging tape to ensure that your care package will endure shipping.
2.) Fill it up! Feel free to include whatever you would like! In case you need some help, here are some suggested items to consider placing in your care package:
- An encouraging note
- Personal care items
- Something fun!
3.) Send it off! Mail your care package to CCA: PO Box 151062, Dallas, TX 75315
Clothes for a Cause
Schoola is a fantastic program that saves you money and gives back to CCA!
You can buy or donate women’s and kids clothes. When you buy clothes, CCA gets 40% of the proceeds. Donating is simple! They send you the shipping necessities and take it from there.
There are 3 great ways to get involved:
One for the Books
As we seek to encourage and improve literacy at CCA, we ask you to join us by making and mailing bookmarks!
In just two simple steps, you can help our Reading Warriors:
1.) Make a bookmark. - Get creative! Draw, paint, incorporate Scripture or a line from your favorite book. Use whatever materials you'd like - paper, yarn, leather, duct, tape, paint swatches.
2.) Mail it to us. - Put your bookmark in the mail! Address your package to CCA Reading Warriors, PO Box 151062, Dallas, TX 75315.
While you're at it, feel free to add an encouraging note or donate a book as well!
Volunteers play a critical role in the CCA community. The success of our program relies heavily on volunteers through activities such as providing meals, tutoring and mentoring students, and taking on various leadership roles.
